I received this from Chris Moses a day or so ago. Seems as if a little fire is smoldering about residents de-annexing from Ferris and attaching to Red Oak ISD. I personally have not seen this work in the past simply because tax money lost by one district is going to be picked up by another. Small districts are in financial straits as it is. I think Chris has a great point but will be politely told to "hang it up" based upon property tax revenue.
Looking at the numbers, it falls out to approximately the SAME percentage of YES respondents that turned out for the ridiculous 95 Million Dollar Bond. Hopefully the ROISD Board will view this request as "for the kids" as well. Somehow, I doubt it!
Anyway I told him I'd publish the petitions...here goes...
Petition
Dear: Ferris ISD school board
We the residents of the city of Red Oak, Crump Country Estates which is located in the city limits of Red Oak, TX beg of you to please allow us to de-annex out of the Ferris school district the remainder of the city of Red Oak from 1616 Stainback Rd going east to Nokomis (Red Oak city limit line) to include the 1200 block of Batchlor Road just north of FM 664 and all of Stainback Court, Crump Circle, and Tom Driver Road.
This would allow children to get a better education then they would in Ferris ISD. The graduation rate, TAKS scores and teacher experience are much higher in Red Oak ISD. The Teachers in Red Oak have an average of 3 or more years experience than that of a Teacher in Ferris. The graduation rate in Red Oak is 4% or better than that of Ferris ISD. In 2007 Red Oak ISD was rated as Recognized. In 2007 Ferris ISD was rated as lower with Acceptable.
Parent concerns tend to fall on deaf ears within the Ferris ISD administration.
This would also allow are children to attend school within their own community where they live. It would allow our children to attend school with the kids that our children associate with on a daily bases while attending church and play sports and other activities in their community. We live in Red Oak and feel our children should have the same opportunity as the rest of the children in Red Oak by being able to attend the excellent schools Red Oak has to offer.
The voters in this area of Red Oak feel they are disenfranchised because anytime the City and School has anything on the election ballot the voters have to drive to two different city’s / Locations to vote. During the election in 2007 some voters from this area were turned away at the election poles. This fact was reported in the ECP newspaper in 2007.

TEA rules State that if both districts agree then it will happen! But, If only one school district agrees to the petition then it goes before a TEA admin Judge. Then he will decided the out come.
I personally think the are residents of Red Oak, So their kids should be allowed to go to the great schools Red Oak has to offer!!! Anything’s better than the Schools Ferris has to offer
My jury's still out. I'll check T.E.A.'s school law search engine on it and will ask a couple of edu-business friends of mine.
It still comes down to tax money...who's losing and who's gaining.
Anyone want to place their bets?
Its way less than 5% of Ferris tax base. They will not lose that much to make these people and the kids happy!!!
another supporter of them annexing here.
If they are Red Oak residents, I think Red Oak should fight for them to receive a Red Oak education :-)
I agree with Regina and Amy but the facts is da' facts. It's all about the money and if Ferris is willing to lose ANY tax income? Anyone wanna' place their bets? :)
I gone to feris shools, I got a graet educatoin and think they hav graet teachr's.
They sure as hell didn't teach you how to type!!!!
(all in fun..no flames intended)
Great comment about the school your school dip stick! you must have been a model student!!
CM
YES to Red Oak ISD--NO to Ferris ISD sounds like that would be a win win for those kids, I hope both Districts approve it for the sake of the kids!!!!!!!
I just read this and noticed that my high school daughter missed spelled some words when she typed it up for me. Well that’s what going Ferris for 1 1/2 years does to them. That's why she wanted out of Ferris ISD so bad
Any movement on this as of today? I didn't think so...has the board even considered your request? It's board election time folks...time to either get people in that will listen and work for you or vote the rascals out!
The word is: Red Oak will talk about it in the April meeting. No word from Ferris as of yet
A lot has progressed since this was first published.

I am a full supporter of Ferris schools.
I am a Ferris resident and have gone to Ferris schools since Kindergarten.
I have no problem with Ferris schools and believe the district has come a long way.
Once a dead beat school, made fun of because of academics, athletics and such, it has slowly risen.
This year, football, basketball and softball went to the playoffs in high school.
We have some scholar students in all schools.
We have some of the best debaters throughout the state, in the 3A division.
The TAKS scores are getting better.
We have more and more clubs and, oh, look, I can spell and use grammar just as you can!
Shocking?
I am a student who will be attending Baylor University in Waco in the fall.
I am a Ferris Yellow Jacket.
Does that say anything?
My children attend FISD (and we live in Red Oak), and I have nothing but praise. The teachers have been wonderful, and my children have excelled in this learning environment. I knew that we were moving into FISD when we bought our house here 11 years ago, as did the people signing the petition. I am sick of reading comments from people trashing a school district that my kids attend. Ferris has had a reputation of being an insufficient school district from years past, but I assure you that it is not the case. Red Oak has it's share of problems, as do all districts. Red Oak's, however, have been in the news. I am not opposed to someone wanting their child to go to another school, but is it necessary to trash this district? A good solution for the people that want their kids to attend Red Oak? Move there.
